How to Cut Down a Tree Without Damaging the House
We had some trees within feet of our house and garage. Some were unhealthy, but the proximity to the house was the key problem. How do you cut down trees without damaging the house? We hired a professional, insured business and filmed how they do it.
In this video you'll see chainsaw mastery, tree climbing, a bucket truck, falling tree trunks, zip-lining tree branches, a large wood chipper, and a stump remover hard at work. Once you see how this work is safely done, you may reconsider trying to do this on your own. It requires the right equipment and safety methods to remove a tree without damaging property around it or risking injuring someone. It is definitely a job to be left to the professionals.
There were four trees that were too close to the house and garage. Let's start with the one at the garage. Steve, the owner of Aussie Tree Care, shows in the video the signs that this tree wasn't healthy. There were frost cracks that developed and the tree was having a hard time healing them. Eventually, this would cause the tree to die. When Steve cut down the tree, he shows how fragile the trunk was by splitting a cross section of it with his hands.
The tree at the back of the house towered over the roof and was within feet of the foundation and roof. Jake climbed the tree and removed limbs as he went. Looking at a cross section of the tree trunk, you can see just how close it was to the house and that carpenter ants had infested the tree, so it would eventually die and we did not want that falling on the house.
The two trees at the front of the house were also too close. One was inches away from the porch roof and the other was leaning towards the house... not a good situation in the event of heavy snow or a storm.
The end of the job was amazing to watch, as the stump grinder chewed up the stump. It's important to remove stumps as they can attract carpenter ants, which can migrate to your home.
Thanks to Steve and his crew from Aussie Tree Care for doing great work and allowing us to capture what they do on video.
